Grandparents day

Post date: Jan 28, 2015 2:38:5 PM

As part of Catholic schools week 2015, grandparents were invited to join us this morning for a special prayer service in the school hall. After this the grandparents visited the children in their classrooms and the pupils got to show them around. Many of the grandparents told us about what life was like when they went to school and we discussed the changes that have occurred since. Pupils then asked them questions about school and other aspects of their lives when they were young. Following this the grandparents returned to the school hall for refreshments.

This was the first time we have hosted this event and it was a huge success. Céád míle buíochas to all of the grandparents and parents that showed up in such large numbers this morning. The children really enjoyed your visit and definitely learned a lot. While we use a lot of modern technology in our learning these days, discussing history with a grandparent is absolutely invaluable to the children in helping them learn about the past.

A huge thank you to members of the parents association who served the refreshments afterwards. Thanks also go to the many parents who very kindly sent in cakes, buns etc. It all helped to make the day a wonderful success.
