Living Things

Living Things - Habitats and Woodlice

Pupils in Ms Berrys 1st/ 2nd class and Ms Phelans 2nd class learned about habitats. During the course of this work they explored some of the plants and animals that might live in different habitats. One of the animals they learned about was the Woodlouse. They went around the school yard and garden in search of woodlice. One of the key things that they learned was that woodlice love to hide under old logs or under rocks. They brought along our mini bugs equipment to have a closer look. They counted that the woodlouse has 14 legs, they prefer the dark, they eat old rotten wood and leaves and that they can be fast when people want to have a closer look. They also have a skeleton on the outside called an exoskeleton.
