Young Whistlers Course

A Chara,

Offaly Cumann na mBunscol will be running a 'Young Whistlers' refereeing course in Mucklagh Community Hall on Wednesday 1st March 2017 from 3.50pm until 5pm.

The young whistlers scheme and course is an initiative in which primary school children are taught the rules of hurling and football together with effective refereeing techniques in a fun and enjoyable way. Hopefully, children will also develop a positive attitude to the arduous task of being a match referee.

The course may also be of particular relevance in helping to inform children of the rules of the game and even how they could act as good referees in the school yard.  It would also be a really worthwhile experience for any school who is thinking of applying for the Active school flag.

The course will be delivered by inter-county referee and primary school teacher David Gough. David refereed last year's All Ireland football semi final between Kerry and Dublin in Croke Park and has many years of experience in presenting the course in an interesting and engaging fashion.

The course will start at 3.45pm in Mucklagh Community Hall and finish at 5 pm approx. Both boys and girls from third class to sixth class are welcome to attend.

There will be tea and sandwiches for any parents or teachers in attendance. Parents and teachers are encouraged to stay at the venue whilst the course is taking place. Each child who attends the course will receive a whistle and a referee's notebook.

If any child  is interested in attending, I would appreciate if you could please contact the school with  their name, parents name and parents contact phone number before Friday 24th February 2017.
