Grandparents day 2017

Post date: Feb 09, 2017 4:18:19 PM

Grandparents day 2017 was a wonderful success and its popularity is building year on year.

The boys and girls and their grandparents gathered in the church in Killeigh to celebrate mass together. Many thanks to Fr John and to all of the boys and girls who ensured a lovely ceremony was enjoyed by all.

Grandparents were then invited back to the school hall for refreshments. It was a great social occasion and much credit must go to our hard working parents association who once again outdone themselves serving and preparing teas, coffees and cakes. We would also like to express our gratitude to the parents who very kindly donated baked goods etc.

Then came the moment the children enjoy the most. The visit of the grandparents to their grand-children's classrooms.  The learning potential of this exercise cannot be underestimated. Our grandparents have a wealth of knowledge to pass on and many questions were asked of them during their visit. The children learned about what life was like when their grandparents were in school and also how things have changed. There were stories told and songs sung and it proved to be very enjoyable for the children.

A word of thanks must go to the staff of Killeigh NS and in particular to Ms Sheeran for their help organising this event.

Finally and most importantly we would like to thank all of our grandparents for turning out in such numbers. We look forward to welcoming you again.
