Vex Robotics

Students from 6th class in Killeigh N.S. engaging in some hands on learning through Vex IQ. It is a robotics platform designed to promote STEM learning for young students.

 

Offaly County Council and the Department of Rural and Community Development are providing funding under the Digital Innovation Programme to roll out this new digital initiative for 16 primary schools in Offaly. The aim is to expose students to Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) fundamentals within the context of building a robot using Vex IQ.

 

Students can jump right in and snap robots together using this intuitive toolless system

 

Collaboration, discussion and teamwork skills are in evidence from the outset.

 

Programming some code for their robot - the software has a great

introductory drag and drop graphical interface as well as standard text coding for more experienced users.

The students will compete against 15 other schools from Offaly in the Vex Iq Offaly championships on the 16th of May 2019 and against teams from throughout Ireland in 2020 and 2021.
