Futsal

FAI coach Gary Seery recently visited the school and introduced the FAI Futsal lessons to the pupils from 2nd class to 5th class and their teachers. The boys and girls had great fun and we are very grateful to Gary for giving his time and expertise. 

Science Blast 2023

Pupils in Ms Molloys and Ms Gleesons 5th class have been very busy recently preparing their Science project for this years Science Blast Science Fair. This year the boys and girls tried to answer the question "Why can we see the moon during the day?"  

They travelled to the RDS on Tues 28th Feb and presented their findings. The boys and girls were absolutely fantastic in how they engaged with the judges and with the many visits to their stand. Feedback from the judges was very complimentary of every aspect of their project.  The judges praised them for their fantastic understanding of the scientific concepts of the topic. They went on to say that the project was excellent, well informative and well executed with significant additional interesting facts relating to the topic.  Well done boys and girls. Thanks to Ms Molloy and Ms Gleeson for all their work helping the boys and girls with this project.

VEX Robotics National Finals

Our VEX robotic group had an early start on Wed 22nd of Feb, when they travelled to Pairc Ui Caoimh in Cork for the National finals of the VEX Robotics Slapshot competition. The team had put a massive effort into their engineers diary and presentation and they had also fine tuned our robot that had performed so well in the regional final in Edenderry. The boys and girls once again done everyone at Scoil Shinchill proud and they placed in the top 10. Well done to everyone involved.

Peace Proms 2023

Pupils from 4th class have put in a huge effort in their preparations for this years Peace Proms concert. On Sun last, they travelled to the RDS where this years concert took place. We are incredibly proud of the boys and girls who sang their hearts out. Thanks to Mr Phelan, Ms Gleeson, Ms Hyland and Ms Sheeran for looking after them.

St Brigids Day

Pupils across the school celebrated the life of St Brigid on Feb 1st, St Brigids day, including pupils from Ms Molloys 5th class who made St Brigids crosses.

Snow Fun

Our pupils had great fun in the snow today and made the most of it making snowmen. 

GAA Coaching

Coach Sinéad Moore joins us every Monday to work with our pupils to help develop fundamental movement skills as well as their hurling skills. We are very grateful to Clodiagh Gaels, Na Fianna, St Sinchills camogie club and Offaly coaching and games for providing this coaching.

School Hall Athletics

Our pupils from 3rd to 6th class have been busy developing their athletic skills over the last 2 months. Robin Geragthy from Offaly Sports Partnership has worked with the pupils to teach them disciplines such as the Standing long jump, chest push, speed bonce, triple jump and vertical jump. They have also been practising their running and relay skills. 

Today teams of pupils representing 3rd/4th class girls, 3rd/4th class boys, 5th/6th class girls and 5th/6th class boys travelled to Rath to Drumcullen GAAs impressive indoor facility to take part in a competition. It was a very enjoyable day and both girls teams emerged victorious. Well done girls and also well done to our boys teams who were both very competitive. 

Massive thanks to the Offaly Sports Partnership for providing this opportunity for the boys and girls. 

Christmas 2022

We were delighted to welcome our parents and grandparents to St Patricks church, Killeigh on Thurs 15th Dec for our Christmas show. Our junior show took place during the day and pupils from 2nd to 6th class entertained a capacity crowd that night. Thanks a million to Fr John and Doris for their help with the church and  thanks to everyone who came.  Videos from both events are available below

VEX Robotics

Our VEX Robotics team travelled to Edenderry this week to take place in the regional competition run by Offaly county council. The boys and girls from 6th class had put in a huge effort preparing for the day and it paid off as we were 2nd on the day and have qualified to travel to Cork on Feb 22nd to represent Offaly. VEX robotics combines robot design and building, problem solving, coding and driving skills. We are very proud of the team and wish them well in Cork

Safer Internet Day 2023

Safer Internet day 2023 took place on Tues 8th Feb and every pupil from Scoil Shinchill took part. Each class learned about some aspect of internet safety and pupils enjoyed testing their knowledge using kahoot quizzes, making posters and much more. Thanks to Webwise.ie for the wristbands and resources. There are loads of excellent resources on webwise.ie and we encourage all parents to use this excellent resource.

Credit Union Quiz

Teams representing Scoil Shinchill travelled to the Tullamore Credit Union Quiz lately. They had been keenly refining their general knowledge in the lead up to the quiz, under the tutelage of quiz expert Mr White. While they id not place on the night, they nevertheless represented the school to the highest standards and performed very well. Well done boys and girls.
