We started learning to play chess in Scoil Shinchill this year. We ran a chess club at break times, and pupils played games against each other, and our pupils quickly became very skilled players.
Last week, we held a 6th class chess tournament, with the top eight children qualifying to compete against local schools, Geashill and Cloneygowan.
We had a wonderful day in Cloneygowan and would like to thank Mr. Ryan, for organising such an excellent tournament and inviting us to participate.
Congratulations to everyone who took part. They represented our school brilliantly and were absolutely fantastic throughout the day. Well done to all involved!
The boys and girls of 6th class were treated to a fantastic lesson on the heritage and history of our parish when Fr John brought them on a walking tour of the village. This is a long standing tradition and one of the most eagerly anticipated lessons each year for 6th class. Thanks a million to Fr John
Congratulations to our wonderful hurlers who were crowned Offaly Cumann na mBunscoil A hurling champions. Played under very warm conditions, spectators were treated to a wonderful display of hurling from both teams as both sets of players made light of the hot conditions. The Durrow lads had defeated our lads earlier in the season and we had it all to do today. A wonderful team performance where everyone put in a huge effort led to a historic win for Scoil Shinchill.
Hard luck to a gallant Durrow team. Thanks to referee Eamon O'Connor . Thanks a million to Offaly Cumann na mBunscoil and their team of volunteers for running such an enjoyable finals day. Thanks to our GPO Eimear Carroll for all her hard work with our pupils throughout the year. Thanks to Clodiagh Gaels for the use of their fantastic facilities, thanks to Na Fianna hurling and football, St Sinchills and Na Fianna LGFA for their support of GAA in our school and for the work they do with our pupils. Thanks to coaches Mr Breslin and Mr Poyntz and to all our coaches in the school. Finally, thanks to everyone who supported us today and throughout the year
We were delighted to collect our 6th Green Flag today at an awards ceremony in the Radisson Hotel, Athlone, recognising our work in Global Citizenship – Litter & Waste as part of the Green-Schools Ireland programme.
Ms. Molloy, our Green Schools coordinator, Ms. Sheeran and two 6th class representatives from the Green Schools Committee collected the flag on behalf of our school.
We look forward to holding a flag-raising ceremony in the coming weeks so the whole school community can celebrate this achievement together.
Congratulations to our First Communion class. It is always such a special day for the children, their families, and our school.
2nd Class were so well prepared — a big thank you to Ms Dunne and Gail for all their hard work. The choir was beautiful, and there was a great turnout from the children.
Thank you to all the staff who came today to help in any way.
First Communion is such an important day in our school year.
The Communion tea party, organised by our wonderful Parents Association and 1st Class parents, was a great success and very well attended. A sincere thank you to everyone who helped with organising, setting up, and contributing donations to make the celebration so special. It was a lovely opportunity for families to relax, chat, and enjoy time together after the ceremony. A special thank you to Catherine and Ann for coordinating everything so wonderfully.
Thanks also to Fr John for his support and for leading such a beautiful ceremony, and to everyone who helped make today such a special occasion
Some members of our Student Council were invited to the Court Hotel, as representatives for our school, to take part in a consultation on the Department of Education and Youth’s Wellbeing Policy Statement.
Alongside students from five other schools, they shared their views and experiences of wellbeing in school. Their ideas will help the Department better understand how schools can support children’s wellbeing and what improvements young people would like to see in the future.
We are very proud of our Student Council for using their voices to speak confidently about issues that matter to them
Our school garden is looking fantastic in this beautiful sunny weather. Well done to Ms Gleeson and her helpers for all their hard work keeping it so well.
A huge well done to our 6th class pupils, Tom and Michael, who have created an incredible bug hotel for our school garden! From planning and design to the final build, they have worked together in their free time over the past few weeks, showing outstanding creativity, craftsmanship, and hard work
Our pupils were absolutely delighted with the bug hotel and are already looking forward to seeing some little lodgers check in for their holidays!
We are so proud of everything the boys have achieved. Their bug hotel will take pride of place in our garden, and long after they leave Killeigh N.S. it will stand as a lasting reminder of their talent and hard work.
Two very creative and skilled young lads with a bright future ahead!
A great day was had at the Trad4Schools event as part of the Tullamore Trad Fest. The Trad group from Killeigh with Ms Boland, Ms Sheeran and Cathal were delighted to be part of it.
The Offaly Cumann na mBunscoil Gaelic football skills competition was held and the Scoil Shinchill representatives put in a very good showing. It was a difficult day for football with strong winds and cold temperatures and while there may not have been any prizes, the Killeigh duo did us proud on the day.
Congratulations to our Sports Quiz team who came joint 3rd in today's Allianz All Ireland Cuman na mBunscoil Sports Quiz in Tullamore. There were very some very tricky questions posed and our team showed great composure to come in 3rd place. Thanks to Ms Murray , Mr White and Mr Breslin and to the parents of our team who had all helped the team prepare. Massive thanks also to Cumann na mBunscoil for organising a fabulous event
