Graduation 2022

It was with a mixture of pride and sadness that we wished our wonderful 6th class all the best as they graduated recently. Covid-19 certainly threw up plenty of problems for everyone, however the boys and girls in this years 6th class certainly prove themselves to be very resilient and talented bunch and we will miss them all. We wish them all every success for the future.

They recently celebrated their graduation with a ceremony in school and with a service with their parents and family in St Patricks church Killeigh. We thanks everyone involved for making these events so memorable.

Dorindas Dance Party

One of our favorite activities to do every year is Zumba. The children absolutely love it and our Zumba instructor Dorinda Cuskelly really brings all her energy to it and this really encourages the boys and girls to get involved. Today we had our last session of the year and we had a Zumba dance party with everyone across the school joining in. To get us in the mood, we all dressed up in bright, colourful clothing. We thank Dorinda for all her efforts and look forward to welcoming her again next year.

Sports Day 2022

We held our annual Sports Day on Tuesday 2ast of June. We had the usual mix of races, obstacle courses, novelty events and BBQ and ice cream. This year we introduced some cube style challenges and by popular demand our disco room returned once again. Thanks a million to everyone who helped out and made the day so enjoyable. We send a special word of thanks to our parents association who helped on the day.

Colin Dunne Hurling Blitz

Our boys hurling team were recently invited to play in the Colin Dunne hurling blitz in the Faithful Fields.

After an initial setback against a strong Ballinamere team, the Killeigh boys rallied really well and after 2 great wins against Killeen and Clara we reached the final. Ballinamere were waiting in the final and despite beating us well in our opening fixture earlier in the day, the lads quickly consigned the memory of that game to history as they gave everything trying to win this prestigious cup named after our beloved Colin Dunne. In the end, Ballinamere had a very slight edge over us and emerged victorious.

We wish to thank Declan Ward from Offaly Cuman na mBunscoil and his team for what was a really enjoyable and superbly organised blitz.

Science Foundation Ireland - Plaque of Excellence Awards

Once again, we have been successful in our application for a Science Foundation Ireland Plaque of Excellence in 2022. Over recent years, we have placed a very heavy emphasis on teaching and developing an appreciation for science amongst our pupils at every level. Our Science, Engineering and Maths weeks, where we hold special events within the school focussing on these areas, have been very successful and have seen children in all classes engage in a huge variety of interesting and enjoyable projects and experiments.

Pictured are Ms Molloys 5th class who completed a magnificent project for this years Science Blast science fair. They attempted to answer the question "How does colour affect our mood?" They completed surveys, interviewed people and undertook a huge amount of online research. The Judge assigned to interview the class was very impressed with both the way they undertook the project as well as the way they presented their results.
