Active Flag

Today, our school community gathered together to raise our first Active Flag. Active Flags are awarded to schools that are physically educated and physically active. A huge amount of work has been undertaken in the last 2 years to achieve our Active Flag. Today, Mr White paid tribute to everyone involved in this work and made special mention of Ms Moriarty and her Active School committee. Over the last 2 years, each class took part in a number of activities including Run Around Ireland, 10 at 10,  Active School Week and Walking buddies. A number of children were also Playground buddies that encouraged children to get active during break. Fr John added his own congratulations before the committee worked together to raise the flag.

Earlier today, the entire school took part in a 10 at 10 exercise routine, led by the wonderful boys and girls in Ms McElduffs 6th class.

Safer Internet Day

Dear Parents,

Today, as a school we will be taking part in Safer Internet Day 2022. Each class will be taking part and teachers across the school will be exploring the topic of Safer Internet Use using a variety of different lessons depending on each class level.

As parents, you play a vital role in helping your children to use the internet in a safe, respectful manner. There are many resources available on the excellent webwise.ie/parents website and we strongly encourage you to use this resource.

One of the key messages on this Safer Internet Day is that having regular open conversations is one of the most effective ways of supporting your child online. Webwise is running the #TalkListenLearn  campaign as part of Safer Internet Day 2022.

The #TalkListenLearn campaign encourages parents to have open and regular conversations with their child about the internet. To talk to them about benefits and the risks, but also to listen to what their child has to say and to learn about their life online. Research consistently shows that many children do not tell if something goes wrong online. Having conversations with your child is one of the most effective ways of ensuring that they have a safe and positive experience, and to help them to feel comfortable coming to you if they encounter an issue.

More information can be found at https://www.webwise.ie/talklistenlearn/  and in the attached notes.

Finally there is a lovely resource available to support this. A conversation topic generator can be found at https://talklistenlearn.webwise.ie/questions/

We would encourage parents of our older pupils in particular, to use this resource.

St Brigids Day

Pupils from Ms Molloys 5th class celebrated St Brigids day today by making the traditional St Brigids crosses.

Grandparents Day - Catholic Schools Week

Grandparents Day, which is celebrated every year as part of Catholic Schools Week,  is always one of the most popular celebrations in the school calendar. Once again, we were unfortunately not able to invite our wonderful grandparents to join us in school. However, pupils joined a diocesan mass dedicated to our grandparents and pupils throughout the school joined in activities that celebrated the contribution our grandparents make to our lives.

Covid-19 Updates (24/01/2022)

Message from Mr White (19/01/2022)

Dear Parents

After yesterday's horrific news, we want to express our heartfelt sorrow and sympathy to the family, colleagues, friends and pupils in Durrow NS of the late Aisling Murphy. We also send our deepest sympathy to her boyfriend Ryan and the Casey family on their devastating loss.

Aisling was a beautiful, kind, talented person and a wonderful teacher. As a student, she completed part of her training here in Killeigh where she taught 6th Class some years ago. She was devoted to her profession, and was ,loved by her pupils, their parents and her colleagues in Durrow.  The sense of shock and sadness this morning is palpable everywhere.

We offer all our thoughts and prayers today for Aisling and the many people whose lives she touched in her own kind and wonderful way.

'Leaba í measc na h-aingil Dí go deo.'
