Parents Association Fundraising

We are very grateful to the Parents Association for their continued support of projects prioritised by the school.  Buses for swimming lessons for 4th-6th class were all paid for as well as the bus to the Hallelujah Concert.  In order to maintain and improve on the high standard of literacy within the school, we have sought support from the Parents Association for the purchase of the next stage of the PM Reading Scheme.  To date we have introduced PM readers with Senior Infants and First class since September 2014 and since February, with Junior Infants and 2nd class.

PM readers are guided readers and such schemes yield excellent results.  However, the initial introduction costs including the purchase of over 1,000 books is costly.  We will be adding to this stock over the coming years and are grateful for the Parents Association support in this regard.  These books replace the class reader and the

children get to work in small groups at reading time with extra teachers in the classroom.  Each child reads at their own level in their own group and progress is steady.  They are regularly assessed and benchmarked at their appropriate level.  We have found that the standardised test results reflect the success of the scheme.

Book lists in the appropriate classes will include a rental fee to be paid in September to help offset costs also.
