Ms Dermody's 3rd class learned all about what conditions were needed for plants to grow. Using a number of test samples, each group planted seeds and removed one of the conditions needed for plant growth. They used a control sample which was exposed to light, heat and water and they used this to compare to samples that had
heat + water but no light
heat + light but no water
light + water but no heat
After a few weeks it was clear that each of the elements are needed as there was a huge difference between the test sample and each of the other sample. It was also clear that the seeds without water made the least progress.
