It was national Safer Internet day today and many of the classes in Scoil Shinchill took the opportunity to learn about how to keep safe online.
5th class - Stay Safe - CyberBullying
Pupils from 5th class have recently been learning about means of communication in Geography and today we learned how technology can sometimes be used to bully others. Using Stay Safe resource, pupils learned that examples of cyberbullying can include:
Sending nasty messages/photos/pictures from your phone, laptop, tablet or gaming device using Facebook, Xbox, PlayStation or other
messaging services
Pretending to be someone else and posting stuff online that makes the person look bad or causes arguments
Spreading lies, gossip or rumours using text messages or online messaging services
Sending mean, embarrassing or private texts or photos of someone onto other people
‘Liking’ nasty comments or photos about someone
Using phone or internet to exclude someone from the group.
Bullying that happens online or by phone is called cyberbullying.
Pupils also learned steps to take to stop cyberbullying.
Pupils from Mr Breslins class created their own posters and these can be seen below.
