Sen Inf - Build a Sail boat

Pupils in Ms Dermodys Sen infants class had great fun for engineers week. As well as learning about the importnat work of engineers all around us, the boys and girls took on the challenge of building their own model sail boats. 

As part of the design process we looked at the following:

• shapes of the bottom of the boat (or hull)

• we discussed the shapes of the sail

• how to support the sail

• where to put the sail

• what height would be best

• what materials would work well (we discussed properties needed - material needed to be light, strong, waterproof and would float)

We conducted some mini experiments along the way before building our boats in smal groups.
